Because of a collaborative effort, and Edwards very difficult, but courageous decision about what to donate, Andrew's life is passed on to others.
It has always been the twins instinct to help others in need, ALWAYS!

These are the lives that Andrew touched:

46 year old man that received Andrew's right kidney is doing really well
(the gentleman that was waiting since July of 1996 for a transplant due to chronic glomerulonephritis~ on dialysis for 14 years)

The 38 year old man that received Andrew's left kidney is doing well and says "thank you so much" he is as single father raising his child.

The 52 year old women who received Andrew's pancreas is now cured of her type 1 diabetes. She had been waiting for a transplant since July of 2000.  She is doing great.

The 52 year old gentleman that received his liver unfortunately passed away on August 20, 2004

The 19 year old girl that received Andrew's heart is doing really well.
She was a "Status 1A" patient with less than 7 days to live, due to cardiomegaly.

Below is the letter sent to the recipients on behalf of Andrew's friends and family that we would like to share with you.

Dear organ recipients and their families,

We’ve been wanting to reach out for some time now to hopefully learn how the recipients are doing or if the organ transplants were successful.

Please know that we pray for and take much comfort in knowing that the loss of our son Andrew possibly provided life and hope to you.

I will never forget those last few minutes with Andrew down the corroder to the OR. I kept thinking how ironic in our saddest moments, during unthinkable circumstances, families on the flip side have received the news of the miracle they were praying for.

We hope that this will aid your healing and comfort knowing that Andrew was loved very much and there is no better way to honor him and what he represented then to have his last efforts on this earth be giving life to save others. For that, we are very thankful, and in a way, needed you as much as you needed him.

Andrew was athletic, hard working, handsome, strong, had a huge heart and a beautiful spirit. Along with his contagious laughter, Andrew was always smiling and is remembered no other way.

It is these memories of him that keep us strong and inspire us to try to love and live life more then ever in his honor.  It can be difficult and will take time to master, not much time has passed, but I can’t help to think about how much Andrew must be hurting knowing we go through these difficult times. See, Andrew would do anything for anybody, so again, we need to be strong for him.

He was going to be 23 and is survived by a twin brother and two half brothers. He loved playing football, baseball, hanging out with his girlfriend, and worked very hard with his father roofing for the last few years.

He was admired by the community, and was a welcomed part of many of his close friend’s families. He has many many Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, and a Nephew that love and miss him terribly, and are just as anxious to know how the recipients are doing.

We understand if it is difficult to reach out. While welcomed, know that we do not expect any personal letters.

But we ask that, if it is possible, please let the representative for the New York Organ Donor Network at the very least inform us of the recipient’s condition or success of the transplant.

Again, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Thank you for this opportunity to reach out.

 Sincerely,

The Family of our special Angel Andrew
